Chapter 95: Farewell to Riverview
Xue stops in to jam with Kirk before leaving the city.
School has been canceled until further notice. The local news channel is a cycling slide show, seeing as the news crew fled the corporate towers when it, too, came under mummy attack.
Xue crawled out of her basement, quite literally, and is prepared to escape Riverview with Spencer and their daughter. She only wishes Yasu and Fischer would come along as well. Shu Fang has already disappeared, along with most of the vampire population. Xue assumes they migrated off somewhere together; she doesn't want to consider the alternative.
Xue gives Wren a strange look when the girl zips by, trying to imagine her niece cuddling up to that strange blue creature the family took in.
With school canceled, Yasu has more time to spend with her kiddos.
Kirk would like some attention too.
"I'm almost done, love," Yasu promises. "I just have to get this last invention out of my head."
But whom will she sell it to? Who will appreciate it? Everyone's been disappearing, dead or gone.
Paola, at least, is impressed with Yasu's flux capacitor.
A piece of tape on the base reads: Do not operate near banshee banishers.
The night sky; black and wide like Nero's eyes.
Wren knows he has feelings for her. She also knows the arm against her back is innocent, not meant to send any signals. Why is it so difficult to ignore?
Wren points out a military plane in the sky, illuminated by the sudden flash of light, far away.
"Look..." she says needlessly. "Bombs."
Nero pulls her closer, frightened by this news.
Paola doesn't have the ability to eat cake. Kirk sympathizes with her pain.
He stops sympathizing when she tries to feed the cake to the butterflies.
"She nearly killed Cassius with her clumsy metal fingers!" Wren complains.
Cassius is a Chinese Yellow Band Dart Butterfly dating back to the times of Leona Archer, but everyone has forgotten the butterfly's exact origin.
McCoy tries to play peacemaker, as usual. "Look, I know Paola is an abomination against nature and you think she might try to take over the world, but she's Mom's baby and you have to be nice. For Mom."
They are both wearing the same shoes.
Alternate caption: cabin fever.
She started it!
"For the record," McCoy says suddenly, "I think you're right, and we should leave Riverview. At least for now."
Wren bites her nails, forced into a role reversal. "It'll be okay..."
While driving around town searching for her neighbors again, Yasu comes across this sight: mummies barring Felicia's way to city hall. They seem to want brain parfait.
Yasu puts herself in danger to serve as a distraction while the old woman escapes.
Not surprisingly, she nearly dies for this.
Luckily explosives solve everything.
They can even have the same function as gypsy smoke.
It was the last straw. When Yasu gets home, the family starts packing up.
Fischer is loathe to leave even one house painting behind. Not to mention his art museum.
"You can always paint more things," Wren promises.
A kiss.
"Because you looked sad," Nero apologizes.
"It's okay..." Wren says.
Kirk can't focus on packing up. Vampires hate travel.
And there is science to do...
Unintended side-effect of a purging potion.
Should have seen this coming, Kirk.
Ow. Ow. Ow.
Ow.
There are no words for this.
Leaving the room of one's death was a brilliant tactic, but there is no escape from Grim.
Nero is confused about what he is seeing.
Paola tries to copy Fischer's emotional distress, but it's merely a parroting. She experiences no true anxiety, since she did not have a role in this tragedy herself.
Oops. Problems in the basement. Crying over Dad has to wait.
Will somebody get down here and help this poor kid?!
That's not helping.
About to be attacked, Nero... begins to sparkle.
"Wren! Wren! What's happening?"
"I... I don't know?!" Shouldn't she be asking him that, really?
And then he just disappears. A gnome, when threatened, teleports.
The problem is Nero does not reappear, leaving Wren to take on this mummy alone.
...Having escaped the mummies, the Archers leave Riverview.
All... four of them.
Yasu didn't want to leave Paola behind, but Paola was the logical choice. Paola cannot be cursed, nor are her eyeballs nutritious enough to eat. Nero has to reappear sometime, is the idea, and when he does Paola can use her homing device to find their family again.
"I'm not comfortable with this, Mom!" Wren complains.
"McCoy got cursed," Yasu says coldly. "We're going to find a doctor."
Fischer is skeptical of finding a doctor who can cure curses, but keeps his mouth shut.
"I'm not ever coming back to this town," Yasu continues, sobbing at the wheel. "Not ever... not ever."
"Well, has everyone gone to the bathroom?"
Lost Willow Park is the last stop before one leaves Riverview and continues on the road to nowhere.
But surely, the Archers will end up somewhere.
_________________________________________________________________________
Etc.: So, that's the end. Mixed feelings.
While the Archer population of Riverview is now gone, ending their legacy, you can still follow the continued adventures of Wren Khan-Archer at my new legacy blog.
Kirk achieved his LTW to max three skills (gardening, piano, logic). All three were determined by his traits (green thumb, virtuoso, and genius), so that worked out. He rolled the wish to jam with Xue a few weeks before I got around to making it happen; she was always busy being a rock 'n roll phenomena I guess.
Yasu's LTW was to max logic and handiness I believe, but I didn't get around to maxing those skills for her. I went through such a grind to get her to level 10 in her career, I just couldn't stomach grinding out skills after that. Sorry, Yasu.
Generation 10 had "awesome" as a roll, so I'm hoping some of this counts:
*Yasu detonated her mother-in-law's living room.
*Nero was turned into a real sim.
*Yasu built Paola the simbot.
*Mummies end the town.
*The game named a kid Kirk Khan, and Yasu married him.
*The family drove a fire truck with little fishies on it around town.
*Flux Capacitor was obtained. Also known as the Inventor's Accolade.
There will (possibly) be a few more "updates" consisting of pictures I took but didn't use.
They won't be story updates.
Thank you for reading.
