Chapter 36: Cake and Cookies

Melody plays her guitar at the gazebo, hoping to express herself through art like so many sims before her. She gets a few tips, but since they're from her mother, she's ticked off instead of thrilled.

Later on, she also gets tips from her new in-laws, Cody and Carolyn. Carolyn is seen here dancing with a forgettable teen male.

One of Melody's nephews, Ken, supervises. If any ninjas pop out of the bushes they are DEAD, 1980's action movie style.

Martin receives a fancy trophy from the mayor for his efforts to make Riverview's residents easier on the eyes, but half of his clients leave disappointed. Could it be that, due to hype, expectations of him may have exceeded his actual abilities...?

Nah, he's an artistic genius.

Melody's newest tattoo is very red. Flowers, straight down between her breasts.

"My heart blooms for you," she says. "And it's fragile. It bleeds easy."

Martin can't help but think it's creepy.

Sacha cooks Melody's favorite meal: cobbler. Pomegranate cobbler.

But digestion is difficult.

It doesn't take long to realize why. Martin and his parents cheer when they hear the news, but Melody has mixed feelings.

"You'll be a great mom, don't worry so much!"

Once convinced, Melody really gets into it. She's going to be so much better than her own mother. She's going to give her child all the latest educational gizmos.

Martin worries she may push this kid too hard to overachieve.

Soon, the baby is born. A girl they allow Sacha to name. So, Paprika.

Melody is plunged again into fretting.

"What if she has my ears, Martin? What if she has YOUR ears?"

Martin laughs. "I hope she has both! One of yours on the left, one of mine on the right."

Melody is less than comforted.

Arthur and Pavel seem intent on not having children any time soon (long lifespans and all), so Sacha and Jazz enjoy the only grandchild they're likely to see this decade.

Paprika is a baby now, but soon she will be a toddler, requiring ten times as much attention. Martin and Melody go out on the town while they still can.

Some of their new neighbors are... well, the Archers have no room to judge.

The true test of vampirism... black lights.

Marty is clean.

Paprika grows quickly, prompting Jazz and Martin to beg for a birthday party.

It's a small one, with the only guests being Martin's brothers and Josephine. Arthur is back from China... and also a doctor now.

Sacha bakes fresh cookies to serve at the party along with the cake, and Melody plays guitar in the background while the cousins dance.

Sacha, still having an obsession with the cake Leona always denied her, will do the honors.

Paprika.

Paprika is not interested in cake or cookies. She wants the boat toy in the bedroom.

Josephine and Pavel chat about their careers, while Martin asks about Arthur's trip to China. It was a nice trip until involvement with hardcore Chinese vampires sent Arthur running and screaming back to his homeland, and Arthur doesn't really want to talk about it.

"I know you're, like, going to be the best police chief Riverview has ever seen, but you should have seriously considered going into music like me and my brother," Josephine sighs. "Your voice is so beautiful."

Melody and Pavel play catch.

"Stop throwing so hard, you %@#$!"

Seeing this eye shape on a little girl reminds Jazz of his mother. He thinks she would have liked his family.

Jazz sets Paprika down, suddenly feeling strange and chilled.

What an odd sensation...

Jazz's youngest son is the first to respond to the commotion.

Arthur files into the room next. Then Melody and Martin.

Lastly Sacha, who catches sight of Grim and flees a whole three yards before fainting.

Hugs.

Four out of five Pavels agree, this was a bad party.

Sacha sobs while cleaning up.

Dirty things in the house have caused Leona to grow restless and haunt on more than one occasion.

_______________________________________
Etc.: So I was getting pictures of toddler Paprika and Jazz suddenly puts her down and dies.Good times, good times.

As per the roll for Martin's generation, Paprika will now be subject to the requirements for "perfect children." That one makes me nervous, but others have pulled it off multiple times and I've already done it once, so hopefully all will be fine. I've also been let off easy. Both times I've rolled perfect children, there was only ONE child to be perfected.

I was so excited to get to roll again. =) Paprika's roll is... single parent, two kids, ghost hunter, a party to remember, and partier. The events of this chapter are unrelated to my roll.

I had one ghost hunter sim before and she was pretty cool, but I'm not keen on having another. So that was a bit of a disappointment. Though it certainly fits with the eccentricity her family has brought to Riverview so far.

PS: The black and white themed lady is one of my boyfriend's creations, imported from an old game. I realized I should inject the town with new blood sooner, rather than later. But there are a lot of kids Paprika's age, so hopefully she'll be able to breed with existing Riverview family lines.
